A previous project had required the use of railroad spike heads and the leftover parts were lying on my worktable for some time. They looked like severed fingers and it kept bothering me seeing them each day. Finally I realized they needed to be put back together like they belonged, hence the hand. The base is locally quarried fossiliferous limestone.
